Having launched in January 2015, the bike park at Constantia Uitsig is being updated constantly, and will ultimately consist of a meandering cross-country track stretching over 3.5 km, amidst indigenous vegetation and the scenic beauty of Constantia.

In addition, there is now also a dual slalom race track and a Bike Barn – offering spectators a cozy hideout and cyclists, a pitstop with bike repair facilities on site.

Designed by Downhill World Champion, Chris Nixon, the tracks are ideal for honing one’s bike handling skills. BMX’s, mountain bikes and cyclocross are all welcome.

In March 2008, proprietor Anthony Rawbone-Viljoen was proud to announce the launch of The Oak Valley Mountain Biking Experience.

Established by Pieter Visser, previously the Oak Valley winemaker, who himself was a keen mountain biker, the trails start and finish in the oak-lined avenues at the entrance of the Estate.

There are 3 marked routes: a 14 kilometre Blue Route for the family; a 24 kilometre Red Route for stronger riders; and the 32 kilometre Black Route for more advanced riders.

The trails consist of a large percentage of well-maintained singletrack, with bridges over farm fences and streams, making for a highly enjoyable ride.

The biking trail takes the rider through beautiful natural scenery, including forests of ancient oak trees, through vineyards, through apple and pear orchards and across sub-clover/grass pastures, set against the stunning backdrop of the protected fynbos on the slopes of the Groenlandberg Mountain. Due to the mix of terrain we recommend you use a good all round tyre. The fee is R40 per rider, payable at the security office located at the entrance gate to the Estate. The trail has been described by expert mountain bikers as the best of its kind in the Western Cape - a 5 star experience!

After your ride, visit The Pool Room Restaurant, Deli and Wine Tasting venue located 500 metres from the start of the trails. The Pool Room is open for breakfast & lunch from Tuesday to Sunday and dinner on Fridays & Saturdays. The wine tasting bar is situated at The Pool Room and is open 7 days a week, Monday to Sunday, including public holidays.

Have fun and enjoy Oak Valley's MTB Experience!

We are very proud to share our fantastic MTB, Trail running and Hiking facilities with you. The 80km of farm trails with about 8km of single track, incorporates all that a Mountain biker, Trail runner and hiker enthusiast demands. A magnificent setting surrounded by beautiful scenery, undulating and flowing track, which we hope will be a pleasure for you to ride and walk. It is safe and fully marked and is designed in such a way to accommodate all ages and fitness levels.

We have tried to make it fast and free flowing with a few technical sections along the way. You will ride over all types of surfaces but in general it will be smooth. The hills are user friendly and enjoyable for the average rider. There are a number of route options and shortcuts and this allows you to choose your distance and route for the day.

Steaming hot showers and changing facilities are available. A small coffee shop which operates on an honesty system has hot and cold refreshments along with some sweets and energy bars for you to enjoy whilst you relax after a nice hot shower in our very relaxed “chill area”.

A bit of history…Clearwater has been a working farm since 1979.  The Abbott’s established the cabins later in the year 1996 with the intention of exposing the beautiful Umtamvuna Nature Reserve & River Gorge to the visitor. Thereafter, over the following 20 years, the next generation developed the interest of the walking and mountain biking trails on the farm.  The gorge view deck has also become a well frequented “to-do” item in the area.

The Routes are designed to exhilarate the mountain biker by design though are quite well suited for the avid trail runner and nature walker.

Clearwater Trails boasts a marvellous mix of terrain and scenic views along four custom-built and well-marked MTB trails. Jan ‘The Man’ Abbott went all out when he designed the routes, making sure there would be something to suit all levels and types of mountain bikers.

An exhilarating mix of hand-made single-track, jeep track and gravel road constitute a fast and riveting ride. Choose between routes along moderate gradients or attempt the more serious downhill section if, of course, you’re prepared to take on the burn as you climb back up out of the valley!

The classic view of the Umtamvuna river gorge on the start of your ride from the Gorge View Deck meets your eyes before you carry on onto the series of flowing berms, switchbacks, natural ramps, bridges and water crossings ahead.

The Blue Route (20km):This is an easy to moderate circular option along a mix of gravel roads, single-track and dual-track. This trail follows the ridge line with only a few gradual hills, but is more technical than the Green   Route.

The Green Route (4.7km):This easy circuit on farm roads and single-track is ideal for family outings and sprint rides. From the cabins, head from the gate to Gorge Viewing Deck. Follow the white rocks with green arrows to stay on route. Green bypasses are interspersed within the Blue Route to offer an alternative course or an easier option.

Mix and match your routes, providing you adhere to the general direction of the route markers, particularly on the Blue Route.

The park is fully fenced and provides a safe environment to enjoy the outdoors right in the heart of Pretoria east. At the moment the park has 22 km of single track with about 300m of climbing to be done, 8 km of running trails which can also be used for walking. Dogs on leashes are welcome to join runners and walkers.

Wolwespruit MTB park also has three new features; one of the largest pump tracks around, a skills clinic area and a jump line for those who need a double dose of adrenaline. All of them designed with the aim to increase rider skill level, confidence and provide hours of fun.

Buffelsdrift Mountain Bike Park is located only 15km North of Pretoria and provides a safe and secure riding environment within the confines of the Buffelsdrift Nature Conservancy. Lying on the western boundaries of the Dinokeng area, between the Roodeplaat Dam and the N1 highway, Buffelsdrift Conservancy has become a fairly popular place to visit not only because it is so easy to reach, so close to both Pretoria and Johannesburg, but also as a superb birding spot.  This is due in no small part to the proximity of the Roodeplaat dam, from which an extensive canal system runs, and the Pienaars River that runs through the conservancy attracting birds for most of the year.

Our bike park has been used to showcase the natural beauty the bushveld has to offer and the wildlife that can be viewed while riding is some of the most breathtaking in the world.  We have Kudu, Zebra, Impala and even the tempestuous Warthog or Bush Pig.  They have an appeal that no one can quite explain.
