The Old Mutual JoBerg2c is no ordinary mountain bike ride. Its a journey across our beloved country that makes meaningful contributions to the communities that it passes through. To date, through various charities, the event has helped to build 12 libraries and two schools and this is just the tip of the iceberg! The riding, from a stage race point of view, is almost unparalleled. From the flatlands of the Free State filled with flowing trail and endless maize lands to the more mountainous trails of KZN filled with some big climbs and even bigger views, the ride has it all. For some reason people think that its an easy stage race option. That concept soon goes out the window when riders are faced with a super challenging day 4,5,6 and 8! The toughest stage comes in the form of stage 6 - 126km long with 2500m of climbing! It's also one of the only stage races we've been to where we have come back home heavier than when we arrived the food is so good! From delicious Karan Beef fillets and mushroom sauce to the endless supply of cook-sisters, it sometimes feels like you are in a restaurant. That, coupled with the incredible hospitality of all the towns along the way makes for an overall riding experience that is hard to beat. Would we recommend that you to it? Hell yea! In 2015, our beloved Tokai was hit by a devastating forest fire that resulted in trail closures for close on two years. After multiple donations and a phenomenal team effort from Tokai MTB Mountainbike Central, volunteers, trail builders and riders alike, the trusted trails of Tokai were reborn some 20 months later!Fast forward to 2018 and the trails couldn't be running better. With mid-week access, optimal flow and several lines catering for mutliple riding disciplines, Tokai is once again the go-to trail network for those living in and around Cape Town's CBD.With such a vast network of trails right on our doorstep, it's no wonder why Tokai is the #ALLRIDEZA crew's local playground. To celebrate this, we set out on our usual weekend route except this time, we're taking you along for the ride. Gear up folks because it's time to go Trail Trippin'!Shot 100% on GoPro.

When it comes to mountain biking stage races, the Cape Epic certainly needs no introduction! With eight days of racing across 700km of untamed terrain, the Cape Epic is undoubtedly one of the world’s toughest mountain biking challenges and as a result, it attracts the very best of both local and international talent. After showcasing South Africa’s local talent at the UCI MTB World Cup - Stellenbosch, Team WILD AIR shifted focus to the international competition of the Cape Epic where we joined forces with one of the top racing outfits, namely Cannondale Factory Racing. Tasked with a ‘fly on the wall’ approach, we spent our days behind the scenes, observing the well-oiled Cannondale machine as the collective put in the ultimate team effort in pursuit of that overall podium. With two stage wins, two days in yellow and a 3rd place overall, Cannondale Factory Racing was not only a firm fan favourite but they also had an absolute blinder at this year’s Cape Epic. Here's our take on their exciting journey throughout the week. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did and what a privilege to have been part of such an incredible racing effort!

One of the first commitments we made to you when launching #ALLRIDE was to do our best at shining a spotlight on South Africa's next generation of upcoming talent. After the successes of bringing you the U23 race at the UCI MTB World Cup - Stellenbosch, we figured it was time to add a little more gravity to the mix! Introducing the “Flying Squirrel” aka Keira Duncan!!! This young man is an amazing enduro MTB talent. With 2017 marking the start of his professional career, Keira travelled to all major enduro races around South Africa and not only took multiple wins, but put his hand up as a competitor that is here to stay!Despite a massive crash in the closing round of the 2017 season and breaking his arm badly, Keira has made a full recovery and is set to step it up a level in 2018. Just last weekend he took the win in the Enduro World Series qualifier at the Kingdom Enduro. We joined him for a morning of shreddage on his favorite local trail, "The Batchelor". Lets just say that we are going to being seeing a lot more of Keira on podiums here in South Africa and no doubt abroad! To keep track of his journey, give him a follow on Instagram: @keira_duncan_sa

Preparing for a major stage race in South Africa, JoBerg2c in Doug Bird's case, is a real committment! You need to follow a fairly robust training program with consistency being crucial! In line with that, training can become a real bore where you begin to feel that riding your bike has become a task and is no longer the escapism it used to be. We find a great way to keep things fresh is to link up with a good mate and take on one or two of the many smaller stage race options. Not only is it good training, but its a great way to explore new trail networks, meet like minded people and share some trail stoke! For this episode of #ALLRIDE, Doug & Craig enjoyed all that the Dirtopia Fairtree Simonsberg Contour had to offer. Our take on this event is that its a perfect "first" stage race option if you are getting into the sport and solid training if you are an experienced stage race rider. With a total distance of just over 110km for 2 days, the route is very well balanced when it comes to flowing trail and challenging climbs. Once you cross the line, you are treated to a hearty lunch and ice cold beer! This is not your typical stage race in the fact that there is no tented overnight accommodation at the race village. With all the fantastic wine estate and B&B options in the area, it makes perfect sense to make it a weekend away with the family! The entry fee is really well placed which makes this event that much more accessible! Well done Meurant Botha, Arina Botha and the Dirtopia team! You guys have created something rad! Shot 100% GoPro!
