Forest Roads, Jeep Track, Rock Gardens, Singletrack

Lebanon MTB:

Hats off to The People Running Lebanon MTB. The Start is at the Oak Lane Camp site / Picnic area. Walk around the “camper’s activity hall” and on the stoop you’ll find the self registration desk. Permits are self issue and cost R20. Maps of the four trails at Lebanon are also displayed here. All four trails are well marked.

The trails have something to offer for all mountain bikers from beginners to adrenalin seeking junkies. The easy trails take you  through scenic valley farms, while the longer ones head into the Lebanon Forest Reserve.  The destination: kilometres of challenging single-track. But before heading down take a moment to enjoy the breathtaking views of the Elgin Valley and Overberg surrounds.

Red trail: (25.7 km / 37km)
Though not particularly long the Red trail really has something of everything. Gravel roads,5,  forest road, drop offs,8  rocky sections, roots and swooping single track that you won’t  wish to end. The scenery Starts on Orchards and heads on into Pine Forests and fynbos. You will encounter steep gradients climbing to the summit and might consider a dip in the dam before heading back to the start.
If you are like me and the single track is what you live for I have an extended take on the red rout which would take rout distance up to 37km and give you the chance to do the main singletrack twice. (If there is intrest I`ll post the track log, for now this is what you do: You exit the single track in that last little banked turn through the dip and end on the forest road. You`ll know what I`m talking about.  Now cycle back up on the forest road until you get a crossing as you exit the plantation. Turn right and head up the steep climb until you reach a tarred road. Turn left on the road and head up towards Houtech. About 500m from the houtech gates there is a grael road that turn off to your left get on it and take the gravel road up to the summit of the hill ( you`ll be next to the Houtech fence. There is a steep decent on the other side of the hill, head down but keep your eyes open for the singletrack heading off to you left. Now enjoy loop #2)

Getting There:
On the N2 Past Grabouw( heading away from Capetown)  turn right the “Valley road”.  From About 2km down the road turn Right into a dirt road Marked Oak Lane Cottages / Lebanon MTB. Follow the Lebanon MTB signs to Oak Lane Park where indicated
