Forest Roads, Jeep Track, Loose Rocks, Rock Gardens, Singletrack

Eden Forest:

This is a small pine plantation above “Paradys Kloof’ against Stellenbosch Mountain. The area contains several single-tracks and forest roads. Entry is Free and this  is a perfect place to kill a hour or two after work. The trails are not particularly long and we normally do several loops in a afternoon. The trail posted takes you up along a single-track and then down “track Two” where after it heads up via forest roads to a third single-track which takes you back down. Along the way I will point out two Downhill tracks.

Single Track One:

Just after entering the gate take the single track to your right. This track makes no secret that you are climbing. About a third of the way up you`ll come across a platform and couple of dirt jumps. Keep heading up. About halfway up you`ll notice a Downhill track to you right (outside the trees). The track has some big jumps, step-ups and platforms. For now we keep going up to where the tree line ends. As you exit the trees head to your left for about t 50m and you see the tack down.

Single Track Two (name unknown):

This is the only track that is maintained ( I do not know by who – but they are doing a good job of ). The track starts off on lose stones but becomes smooth, fast and flowing quite early. It offers a number of jumps and double jumps as well as two steep banks. Normally we would head back up the track and run it several more times, but for the trail posted we now heat up along the forest roads. About two thirds of the way up you`ll cross the “Official” Downhill track (more on this at the end of the description). A short distance later you exit the trees into a fynbos area where you will find a sandy single-track heading up towards the top tree line – take it and follow the track as it heads left.

Single Track Three:

Just before entering the trees again you`ll find the track going down just to the right of the tree line. The rack starts with a lose rocky section witch needs caution. As you enter the trees the track gets smoother, but you need to stay awake so that you don’t get lost. On the way back to the gate the posted trail takes you along the last section of “track Two” which has the two steep drops.

“Official” Downhill:

This track was used for Downhill races in 2007 & 8 and is quite fun – probably a difficulty rating of ‘4’(I fractured my hand here) Unfortunately it is not maintained and you may get lost in some sections. But it is worth the effort. To get to the start, head past the start of ”Track Three” for about 100m.
