Track lengths and difficulties
Not sure if this subject will work but I'm curious to know the lengths of tracks and their difficulties. In some ways, it is gonna be a personal preference, especially the rating of it, but i'm sure the length should all be the same, as they are official track length.
I'm not just talking local but also international.

ok, tag, I'm it, lol. Um, ok, does anybody know the lengths and difficulties of the following tracks (local is lekker); Helderkruin, Stonehouse, Giloolies, Malelane, PMB Cascades, Giba Gorge(hope i got it right) and Klapperkop?
How would you rate difficulty?
easy -> XC rider will be safe
moderate -> any DH riders can do more than 75% without chicken runs
difficult -> Only the best don't use chicken runs

hmm, that is a good question. I guess I would be working on any given rider that has some sort of DH experience. Like me, I still call myself a beginner when it comes to DH. only done 2 races so far and I've only got track experience on 3, of which the one I know exceptionally well.
On a scale 1 -10, 10 being, doing the Red Bull DH Extreme invitation only event in the states and 1 riding down a dirt road.
I give Helderkruin a 5 and Stonehouse a 6.5
Mine I would give a 3 - 4 (Probably once im done with it, it'll be a 5, maybe 6)

Well... the length of a DH track is not a fixed standard, just like Formula 1 tracks. They vary and so does the speed attainable on the track.
When you say "Red Bull DH Extreme" are you referring to the Red Bull Rampage? If so, this is different from a DH race as riders are rated on 4 different categories by judges... not just racing against a clock. Also the riders get to prepare their choice of line for about 1 week before the qualifiers. So not all of them ride the same route.
But yeah, I get what you're saying... some of the stuff on Rampage is pretty much the upper limit of what should be done by a human being on a bicycle.

lmao, thats a good way of putting it. yeah, it is the Rampage. oh, i didn't know that about the RBR.
Ok, if i had to choose a track that i would say is the most difficult to ride, think my choice would have to be Schlazinger, from what I saw last year at the WC. That track looked insanely steep and technical. some of the top riders took some nasty spills down there. I might be wrong about the track name though, sorry, but I know its in Europe and I remember it was also raining and muddy, and very steep. so lets use that one as a 10 difficulty.
hmm, yeah, i guess you right about the length. not really measurable as such.
hmm, had a feeling this is not gonna work out quit as i had planned. perhaps one could say, of the tracks one has ridden, which is the most difficult or the easiest, also scale of 1-10. Or what other riders have ridden that we have spoken too i wonder if that question could work better

yeah, Rampage riders get judged on
1. line difficulty
2. fluidity
3. Style/Technique (ie. tricks)
4. Air/Amplitude
Each one is scored out of 25 to give the rider a total out of 100.
As for the WC course, I think the one you're thinking of is Schladming in Austria?!

of the WC courses ridden last year I think, Leogang which replaced Schladming in Austria is the steepest most insane track I've ever seen (11+ in some sections) and of all the ones raced last year I would love to do Champery in Switzerland, and Val di Sol Italy
ah yes, thats the name, Schladming, tnx guys. yeah, thats the one that everyone kaked on, lol
Leogang also looked fairly mean.
from the courses of last year, i would choose the one in the UK and the one in the USA (Whistler, i think they still rode, unless I'm mistaken).
I think Whistler is a mean ass track to ride, and very long from what I've read. Some of the DH trails there is almost 8min long. (thats about 16min for me, lol)
Champery also looked real wicked as did Val di Sol. but unfortunately i missed that race, what a pitty. i think, (correct me if im wrong) but thats where there was a big show down btwn Greg and one of the Atherten's, not sure now.
btw, are these tracks standard or do they change them around like we tend to change ours around?

you should watch a DVD called VAST. It features many of the awesome riding spots in europe (mainly switzerland). Ski lift up... and 12min down (for fast riders).
Some of the guys I ride with go there, or to the french alps once a year to ride.

Just to complicate things further, one needs to consider how the technical difficulty of a track changes as you start to go faster.
