The Karkloof region has become renowned for its single track, free flowing forest riding, exciting twists and turns and even man-made obstacles for all mountain bike enthusiasts. Following the Mr Price Karkloof Classic Mountain Bike Festival in May the organizers have appointed a full time trail building team to continue upgrading and building new trails in the area. The team has been hard at work and have now produced over 50km of new single track, which has been made for riders of all levels and abilities.

“We simply could not wait until May 2010 to use these amazing new tracks, and so have decided to bring riders this new event, to ride the trails in the Karkloof” explained race director Andrew Nicholson. After the Mr Price Karkloof MTB Festival, world champion and 2009 Mr Price Karkloof Marathon winner Burry Stander said “it was like riding 75kms of cross country’ referring to all the track riding.

The result of all this excitement and enthusiasm is the new Mr Price Trail Blazer event, which will take place on Sunday, 29th November, with the 40km Trail Ride being the main focus of the day. The emphasis of the ride will be “fun for all” as the trails are not highly technical, but rather fast and free flowing. The aim is to offer the recreational riders an opportunity to improve their single track skills and ability.

The ride details are as follows:

40km Trail Ride (75% fast flowing single track riding) at 8.30am
20km Dirt Road Ride (with a few easy tracks for the beginner) at 9.30am
2km Kids Fun Ride around the race village at 10.00am

Although the Trail Ride is a race there are no cash prizes for the Elite and/or racing athletes. Although there will be category product prizes and lucky draw prizes. We are, however, using the ROAG seeding system to place the riders in batches of ability to keep the single track flowing. Race entries will be administered by ROAG and race timing will be done using the Mr Price Timing System (please bring your Mr Price timing chip to registration). We will still provide you with a race time, position and overall ranking allowing you the opportunity to improve your seeding.
