Hey Deon..welcome to no-hassle event registration lol..welcome to ROAG !

Ok..so if this is your first event, then you have to pick up your ROAG board and Mr Price timing chip. Both are free on first issue. To do this just go through the registration table to get your stickers, then go to the black number board/timing chip table to get your board and chip. You will need to know your ROAG number at registration so memorise it or write it on your hand. For every ROAG event thereafter, you can go straight to the express que and just present your Timing Chip for easy registration. ROAG will scan the chip and all your details are automatically available. If its not a Mr Price Timing event then you just have to know your ROAG number instead. You will also at some stage get issued a Elite timing bar code sticker for your ROAG board. Just stick this on so that you can be scanned at the end of a ride.

You will get a email or sms from ROAG a day or 2 before the event that you have entered, explaining the process and giving you your batching (if the event is batched). It takes 3 events to be batched according to your ability, so dont expect a high batching straight away. Your top 3 events are used to create your batching thereafter, so the better you do, the better your batching.

With this just in from Lake Eland I am almost tempted to upgrade from 20kms to 45kms - almost It WAS the hills in the end that killed me in that heat and maybe with this news.....Would be a pity to miss out on the dam....mmm....then I recall coming second last in last year's attempt will have to see what the weather is like on the day. If too hot, then 20kms it is.....

Calling all Lake Eland Cyclists!

Here's an update on how your tracks are doing:

Exciting news is that Bob the Builder, Lake Eland’s resident Track Builder (and co-owner of the Game Park), has been busily sweating to make new thrill-inducing tracks for you.

For the past six months Bob and his team have been hoeing through veld and bush, along the Gorge and through valleys, to bring you the most exciting tracks we’ve ever had. These tracks will take you through bush tunnels, over bridges and along breath-taking scenic single track… In fact, most of the course is single track.

Now, I can see you sweating at the mention of single track. Let’s clear up a few things: ….there is plenty of place for you Racing Snakes to pass the slower Sunday Snails, and the best thing about the single track is that, now that you are not on the roads, your fans can drive into the park to cheer you on.

In fact, because so much more of the course is visible from Reception, you may find your fans enjoying a cold Coke while you’re sweating out on the course. These lazy fans will miss out on the up-close views of Oribi Gorge, Lake Eland Dam and of course the animals. They will also miss out on the exhilarating feeling of conquering the outdoors on a bicycle.

You’ll also be pleased to know that those killer hills have been ‘doctored’. Bob will take us along gradual gradient hills and has carved some terrific switchbacks.

The really fit Racing Snakes can conquer the great outdoors on a 45km track while the not so lazy Snails will enjoy the 25km track. Older kids (and lazy Snails) will have fun on the 10km track, and even the kiddies can join the Lake Eland Classic fever on the 5km track.

Don’t forget about the increasingly popular Inter-Schools 5km-lap challenge on Saturday afternoon, also on an improved track. And of course, the social Saturday Night Ride to the bonfire, for all.

Remember, “No helmet – No ride!”

Sounds like it will be awesome!!! Unfortunately I am going to be limited to the 12km ride with my better half as I promised to do this with her. Might be just as well as I am going to be doing the motorbike thing in the Saturday and the night ride as well. Going to make a full weekend of it.

Hope to finally meet you guys down there and maybe have a few "energy" drinks together!!

Re:lake eland classic 1 year, 4 months ago #29

Going to be an AWESOME ride this one .. had accomm booked since last year ( ok. not quite, but still way in advance .. ).

With the new route, that F@RKING 5k ( ?!? ) hill may have been left out. Pity!! Was hoping to hear how you guys swore yourselves blind riding up it with 35 odd k's in your legs, lol!!

Depending on where we all are on the Sat, is anyone keen to ride at Clearwater then ?!? Am keen to go spin the legs on their track

Remember those finishing hills all too well, JD! Signs like "afkak hill" and "punishment for not going to church". No kidding!!

Was planning a trip to Clearwater on Saturday anyway - will be nice to hook up. Will be staying with my folks in Munster Friday & Saturday night so within 15kms - also want to pop in to meet the newest member of the Abbott family at Clearwater. Little Jennifer Rose made her arrival on 22 September weighing in at a healthy 4.5kgs. Macadamia nuts and bananas are obviously brilliant nutrition for pregnant moms!!!
