So Christmas and New years flew past as fast as they arrived and I am back in the office thinking about riding my bike when I should be working. (Some things don’t change) The 2012 KZN down hill season is set to be a cracker with 10 races planned and 6 different venues. It should be a full year of racing and lots of fun fun fun….. The local DH scene is also poised for a big year with new teams being formed and everybody getting really syked for some serious racing action. In my age category there have already been...

I know I'm going on about this place but to be honest, its the closet to me, that offers downhill entertainment as well as freeride thrills.  To most this place doesn't look like much and doesn't seem to hold much, but for me, its like my second home.  I kinda grew up in that veld, riding my BMX there when I was still little, with my friends, b4 it was ever build up or even thought of as a DH/Freeride track.  Nestled nicely in the south of JHB, just off of the Xavier Rd off ramp, and only a 15min walk...

    Cool
Well, today was definitely a highlight again.   Arrived at Virginia Farm arund 0745 and because the shed and cottage are booked out this weekend, had the privilege of using the homestead facilities.  This farm is my piece of heaven and has never failed to leave me enchanted with every visit. Having attempted Stoney Hill chute the first time last week I had to go back to try and better the measely 3 switchbacks I managed.  Strategy - park big red and walk it down.  It paid off more than I could have imagined.  Managed all but the first tight turn...

Ride 2 Rhodes : Day 2   Another early morning start with the plan being to do 50km before lunch. We were staying at Allendale Lodge and from there it was a small drop down the mountain on dirt road. This seemed simple, but the fog and mist and made visibility pretty difficult, and it wasn’t even 5km before we made our first wrong turn. Landmarks were very difficult to find as we weren’t able to see the dams and fences as stated on the route maps. It was a case of head in a certain direction and hope for the...

Day 1 We had a later start than planned, due to some of our fellow riders only arriving at 11:30pm last night. Taking this into consideration, we deceided to skip the first 15km of tar riding and started on the road to Bainsfield. This was perfect, as the road was mostly forest track/jeep track with ups and downs for an easy 20km.  After a short stop and opportunity to have a snack, we set off again. From this point it was slightly downhill. We left the forest road and headed onto a grass cut section...and then a 1.5km portage/hike a bike...

Written three weeks ago...So 2011 is well on the way and it is noted that some guys have been riding hard and long. For the first time I can remember I had a forced month rest for various reasons, one being that I  tried to jump off a meter high wall, chickening out half way and flying over my handlebars bruising my back in the process. It was a spur of the moment decision based on the fact that my brother in law had just done it, and even though I was leaving to go skiing 10 days later, it looked...
