So Christmas and New years flew past as fast as they arrived and I am back in the office thinking about riding my bike when I should be working. (Some things don’t change) The 2012 KZN down hill season is set to be a cracker with 10 races planned and 6 different venues. It should be a full year of racing and lots of fun fun fun….. The local DH scene is also poised for a big year with new teams being formed and everybody getting really syked for some serious racing action. In my age category there have already been...

So, race day arrived. I was pretty nervous about being able to ride the top rocky section. I kitted up in my new all green moto cross kit and went for a little spin down the road to warm up and get a feel for my bike. I bombed down some classic Howick single track and felt pretty good. Time to man up and get on the DH course. One of the other more experienced riders came past and made a comment about me being the fastest on the peddling section with my seat so high! I laughed and mumbled something...

In preparation for my second Downhill Race we went out to the newly constructed Downhill Track at the Howick Fire Tower. We had heard it was quite hectic with some sections that were pretty much impossible to ride, which left us a little unsure about this whole down hill thing. It was dry until we arrived at which time a constant drizzle started to fall. We parked at the bottom of the track, kitted up and began riding/pushing out bikes up into the misty unknown. I have started a training program/ Class thingy. On Tuesday we did an assessment test (hard as you can for 20 minuets) and on Thursday we got into the training. It was 10 minuet intervals of increasing intensity, sounds simple right? It is amazing how your whole world can shrink down to a 1 cm squared area of digital screen with 3 numbers in it. The world stops existing and all that you life is is getting those numbers to stay at a particular level. Another observation was ones perception of time. 10 minuets can feel like an hour. You think...
