Back againPosted by: Lills |
Not so much fallen off the wagon as fallen off the face of the earth.
It's pretty much felt like that not being able to go to the races and spend time with all of you and not coming onto the site has made it a little easier execpt that I miss you all so much.
So, you probably still won't see us at races much this year but you'll definately see more of me online when i'm not working at something.
We havent stopped riding but have spent more time just riding around Hillcrest as a family. Last weekend we cycled down to Giba and back and that was fun (helping out at Horizon in between).
We'll be spending more time there now that i've taken on the Bootcamp SA 99 days to fitness. It started on Saturday and is going to be an absolute blast. There is a home programme to follow along with a couple of Saturdays at Bootcamp doing a fitness assessment the first one of which is next week. They have also planned a hike for the weekend of the 24th Sept at Giant's Cup i think it's called. As an employee i'm going with to help out so can't wait.
Hopefully this combined with more regular cycling will have me in the right place to start races on a good foot again next year.
And you all thought we'd snuck overseas without a word !)
It's good to be back....

Well exams are finally over so I decided to go have some fun this morning... My ride started with a lil bit of Urban Rage through town... Dodging taxis is good 4 the technical skills...
Arrived at Cascades just as the day started heating up... had an awsum ride where i finaly managed to conquer all of those dreaded multigirl switchbacks! Also did some exploring and found a new loop that iv never ridden b4! Whoop whoop! Some of the trails were a little soft under the tread but thats prob just cos of the recent rain and ofcors Winter.
Hopefully the tracks with be cleared soon as they are quite full of leaves and twigs and now that its finally spring im sure il be riding a lot more often!

Saturday 4 SepPosted by: Zee |
Had an awesome fast 27km ride this morning in the Illovo Farm area. After a bit of rain the past 2 days everything seems clean, the air is crisp and life is beautiful :)
Did a bit of exploring and as these exploring things go had to push up a very slatey and steep unrideable section. When you get to the top you feel you're on top of the world!! Nice thing about being on the top - its downhill all the way!!! Rewarded with a nice long downhill section which blended beautifully into the well-used motorbike trail - cranked up to the heaviest gear for the flatter sections and hit the nearly 1 km run down at breathtaking speed - wooohhooooooooooo!!!!! Well, could only manage the woohoooooo at the bottom because of the pace going down :) Had some extra energy this morning and the adrenaline is still pumping and the smile there for the rest of the day...
Tomorrow an easy-paced ride betwen 15 and 20kms when I take out the beginners. Expecting a "first-timer"13 year-old rider to join us so the pace will be very slow and I may cut the ride a bit depending on how he copes. Looking forward to Lynford next weekend :)

Hey there.
Would anyone be keen to do a weekend adventure ride along the Lesotho SA border near Clarens?

Ok maybe not so much the crying ..... I hope.
Had my first session with Garth at EAP Active (Elite Athlete Performance)... not that I am one, an elite athlete that is.
It's like a Sports Science Centre all under one roof, and they are all athletes, they are all full of fun and make you feel really comfortable.
Nice to have such a facility in Maritzburg.
The tears you may have seen in my eyes when you put the needles in, hey they were tears of joy.....

Trying to stay positivePosted by: Airborne |
So four weeks have passed and I am still in crutches, only two more weeks to go (Yeehaaa).
Sooo frustrating having to be a spectator.
Six months to a year before I will be able to ride competitively again, times like this I wish I had a fast forward button.

Falling off the wagon..Posted by: Lills |
Well I did due to too many other things to do. I haven't cycled or done any form of training since May (does the social riding in the berg count?) and it feels dreadfull.
Now that whatever was causing my bronchitis to reoccur seems to have gone away and I have more time working from home i'm climbing back onto that there wagon. As the 40km training was meant for mtb it felt pretty silly doing it on the road.
I've gone back to a conventional gym programme with the cardio in btw being done on my mtb on the road. Getting into it gently having started with a gym session yesterday and getting ready to go for a quick 20 mins cardio ride just now :)
I'm building up to doing the 99 days to spring boot camp challenge starting in sept which should be a lot of fun as well as really different to normal gym programmes. This way i'll get my trail running and mtb training in as well seeing as bootcamp is at giba.
Hope there are some that will join me.
Hope that the bootcamp thing is fun ! Have ...
